Observation of topological valley Hall edge states in honeycomb lattices of superconducting microwave resonators

چکیده

We have designed honeycomb lattices for microwave photons with a frequency imbalance between the two sites in unit cell. This is equivalent of mass term that breaks lattice inversion symmetry. At interface opposite imbalance, we observe topological valley edge states. By imaging spatial dependence modes along interface, obtain their dispersion relation compare to predictions an ab initio tight-binding model describing our photonic lattices.

Topological states in multi-orbital HgTe honeycomb lattices

Research on graphene has revealed remarkable phenomena arising in the honeycomb lattice. However, the quantum spin Hall effect predicted at the K point could not be observed in graphene and other honeycomb structures of light elements due to an insufficiently strong spin-orbit coupling. Here we show theoretically that 2D honeycomb lattices of HgTe can combine the effects of the honeycomb geomet...

Dirac spectra and edge states in honeycomb plasmonic lattices.

We study theoretically the dispersion of plasmonic honeycomb lattices and find Dirac spectra for both dipole and quadrupole modes. Zigzag edge states derived from Dirac points are found in ribbons of these honeycomb plasmonic lattices. The zigzag edge states for out-of-plane dipole modes are closely analogous to the electronic ones in graphene nanoribbons. The edge states for in-plane dipole mo...

Amplitude-dependent topological edge states in nonlinear phononic lattices

This work investigates the effect of nonlinearities on topologically protected edge states in one and two-dimensional phononic lattices. We first show that localized modes arise at the interface between two spring-mass chains that are inverted copies of each other. Explicit expressions derived for the frequencies of the localized modes guide the study of the effect of cubic nonlinearities on th...

Fluctuations from edge defects in superconducting resonators

Superconducting resonators, used in astronomy and quantum computation, couple strongly to microscopic two-level defects. We monitor the microwave response of superconducting resonators and observe fluctuations in dissipation and resonance frequency. We present a unified model where the observed dissipative and dispersive effects can be explained as originating from a bath of fluctuating two-lev...
